On 3rd January 2019, the Academy for Design Innovation Management has lost an honorary member.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Professor Ashok Ranchhod was a Principal Teaching Fellow at the University of Southampton and an Emeritus Professor at Southampton Solent University. <\/span><\/p>\n Before finding his passion for Marketing and completing his MBA at Sheffield Business School, Ashok completed his degree in Chemistry at the University of Sheffield and went on further to complete a Masters in GeoChemistry before founding a plant cloning technology company (Microplants), in the 1980s. He was also previously Director of MICA in India. <\/span><\/p>\n Ashok has supervised numerous PhD students in Marketing and Gaming. He has held arrange of for an array of visiting Professorships at Napier University, University of Angers and Canberra University. Ashok has written more than <\/span>60 papers and published books<\/span><\/a>, such as <\/span>Marketing Strategies: A contemporary approach<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n Ashok was the leader of MA Programmes in <\/span>Design Management<\/span><\/a> and Global Advertising & Branding, having contributed to the development of both degrees and he always found ways to innovate and bring new ideas for teaching and learning. Passionate about innovation and creativity, Ashok always loved running simulations for marketing learning. He has developed the module of <\/span>Strategic Design Marketing Management<\/span><\/a>, recently included in the Design Management programme. He has also contributed to the development of many other programmes at the WSA school in the University of Southampton, such as the luxury brand group and the development of the UG Games Degree. He was also module leader on the Creative Industries module, where he also taught business strategies for UG students in years 1 and 2. He leaves a legacy of inclusiveness and co-operation which will be carried forward by all the members of staff that were given their first roles via Ashok, his numerous PhD students (many of whom continue their work with University of Southampton) and the wonderful opportunities that emerged from his ability to connect people and ideas.<\/span><\/p>\n Ashok is the mentor of an ESRC funded Silver Shopper project to improve supermarket environment and service design for older customers in the UK and China. He supported early career researchers to development of the project with his whole heart and contributed a variety of research outputs such as journal articles and design exhibitions.<\/span><\/p>\n Ashok was an active member of the Academy of Design Management Innovation and Design Management Institute, acting chair of a track in the <\/span>2017\u2019s ADIM conference<\/span><\/a>.
