The Design Management Academy 2017 Hong Kong International Research Conference will be hosted by PolyU Design (the Design School at Hong Kong Polytechnic). The DMA International Research Conference 2017 is organised under\u00a0the auspices of the Design Society\u2019s Design Management Special Interest Group (DeMSIG) and Design Research Society\u2019s Design Innovation Management Special Interest Group (DIMSIG) in association with DESMA network and in collaboration with: Hong Kong Polytechnic, Loughborough University and Delft University of Technology.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This is a follow up conference to 2012 and 2014 Design Management conferences organised by members of the upcoming DMA 2017 Hong Kong. The general theme of the 2017 research conference is \u2018Academic Perspectives on Creative Intersection \u2019. The dates of the conference are 7\u20139 June 2017.<\/p>\n

The general theme of the conference is Academic Perspectives on Creative Intersections. Design Management could have been in the past about managing a design department in a company. In particular in larger corporations there are large teams of designers. In smaller companies, not only the design team is smaller, there could also be a lot more design servicing through external design consultancies. The embedding of design resources properly in an organisation and providing professional support across a range of design disciplines is not a trivial activity. Nowadays, with design becoming more strategic, there is also a wider range of interfacing activities with internal and external clients and collaborators than before and there is also a wider spread of disciplines to productively interact with. New methods and technologies for collaboration and interfacing have come up. Engaging with the many stakeholders form end-users to those who finance new business activities has become different. The dynamics in the world are changing as well. China which has been the centre of manufacturing, now is leading in the development of internet services and has become the most important market in the world in many categories. In this new landscape, the roles and responsibilities of designers are changing. This poses new questions to design academics. Can the designers continue to be the ones who come up with the creative and visionary ideas? How to manage design and innovation in this new landscape? What are the new and relevant research questions that come up?<\/p>\n
